About 150 friends and family of a man killed in a shark attack wrote messages to him in the sand Thursday and stepped into the water at a New Zealand beach to say goodbye.

Around 1:30pm on Wednesday, February 27, a 47-year old man was killed while bodysurfing at Muriwai Beach, to the west of Auckland.

Chris Malloy was at the same beach on Wednesday. "The boys were out in the water bodysurfing and crossed paths with him as he paddled out," Chris said. "Probably last guys to see him alive. They witnessed the people shooting at the sharks from the boats."
