In June 2008, researchers returning in rough weather from a shark-tagging expedition in Monterey Bay noticed a group of birds gathering on the choppy water. A Pennsylvania woman on vacation in Florida took a tip from two dolphins to save a lost Doberman Pinscher that got stranded on a sandbar.

Most of California's best surf breaks are born from creeks. Here in Santa Barbara, Rincon, Hammond’s, and El Capitan are the standards, but SB’s oldest documented surf break is Mission Creek (documented by faulding photo,1918). Called U'lam by the Chumash and “The Pond” by the local rippers.
