There are over 470 species of sharks and they have been living on Planet Earth for 420 million years.

The smallest shark - the dwarf lantern shark - is only 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) in length, while the whale shark is the largest specie in the world, with approximately 12 meters (39 feet).

Saturday 12pm - Ocean Beach, fair+ surfing

Usually you have to be in the water to catch waves... Today was a great example. Looked crappy, ended up being some fun waist to head high shoulders. Super stoked, it's amazing what you can find at OB on the crappy looking days.

To the beautiful dark-haired girl that pulled up alone at 11 in a silver car, promptly pulled out a yellowed thruster, and charged OB alone: you rock. If you ever want a post session burrito, I'm buying.

Saturday 10am - Ocean Beach, poor+ surfing

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but we found a small window of fun surf this AM. most of the beach looked pretty unsurfable, but we poked around looking for the best. Went out, wind died, things glassed off. Still fairly weak and gutless, but there were occasional shoulder high sets rolling through. Mostly drops & weak shoulders, but I connected one nice long right.

Dunno... I expected the worst and it was a lot better than that, so pretty stoked. Your mileage may vary - I heard it was a lot worse earlier, and it will probably be worse again soon...

Oxygen and confidence may turn a wave set nightmare into a relaxed challenge. So, how can you physically increase your lung capacity?

If you're a small surfer, live in lower altitudes and consider yourself an obese human being, prepare to suffer at the hands of that huge set of waves. And if you're a woman, it's not that good. Those are the worst variables when it comes to breathing power.

I am a photographer and a surfer. I have been surfing for over ten years, but prior to that I was a bodyboarder. I’ve never lived further than two miles from the beach, and I honestly feel I’m addicted to the ocean. I’ve always tried to take a photojournalistic approach to documenting the surfing culture at the Jersey Shore.

NAZARÉ, Portugal — The big ones typically come only once a year, in the winter. Whipped up by powerful storms in the North Atlantic, they roll for days toward Europe, rising to seemingly impossible heights before crashing on the shores of Praia do Norte, a beach along the Portuguese coast just north of this picturesque fishing town.

"I was on the boat doing social media stuff for Quiksilver...wearing all sorts of hats, nursing a scraped arm from the morning," Peter Mel said of Tuesday's encore performance at Teahupoo. "I called home and my wife and kid asked why I wasn't getting any bombs. So I said I'd go out and get mine.

am tempted to give it a fair minus, but that would probably be too generous. Shoulder high dumpers, a couple small faces, much more fun than expected. Did not drive around too much this morning but found a nice little spot that was working better than anticipated. Stoked given expectations.
